A)I think that the nature of translation is process and product. When I consider the translation as a process, I recognize its guidelines and instructions because translation guidelines and instructions should be provided to ensure correct translation. Also, translation includes the transfer of a message from one language to another. To do best translation, the translator should be based on principles related to culture, language, linguistics, and writing. The process is necessary to analyze the translation. As I read, the translation can also be a product of a translation process. At the end of the process, the translators have a full text such as article, novel, story, and music lyrics.
B) In my opinion, translation means that something which is unknown by people makes meaningful. I think that some words may not have a specific word to translate and it can be explained by making sentence. Briefly, the translation means opening the door for unknown text, articles and making it meaningful.
C)If a text is about out of my interest, translating can be difficult for me because I have no idea about the context. For example, my uncle is a doctor and he gives me some articles to translate. In them, there are several Latin vocabularies and I am not sure how to translate them. Also, last week my brother sent me an article about the inclusion of Roma and since it includes some interesting information about Roma, I like it. Some magazines include both Turkish and English. When I read them, I checked the both languages and I consider that if I translate the article in the magazine, I think about which words I can use for the article.
D)The most visible improvement is enlarging vocabulary knowledge. For example, to use the most appropriate word in translation, I check its synonyms. With the help of translation, I can have an idea about the culture. In New Paltz, I took an Italian course and in the beginning of course there are several unknown words. With the help of English and Turkish, I can choose the correct word for translation.
E)I think that translation shows us whether we understand the text or not so that it is important for people who are interested in translation. When I watch a movie, I do not prefer to read the subtitles. For example, I am fan of How I Meet Your Mother and in some parts there can be meaningless words so that I looked the subtitles and I like the way they translate. As I remember, in the movie one character combined two words ‘fevkalade’ and ‘mukemmel’. The translator wrote ‘fevkemmel’ and I like this kind of translation. In my translation courses I have never done such kind of translation. I think that there should be a talent to translate perfectly.
